Business is tough; running one, I mean. Good marketing is the backbone of any successful business. In today’s world, marketing and social media go hand-in-hand. Social media isn’t an option for any business…it’s a must. Knowing what to post, when to post, and where to post, can be a bit confusing for some. Well, that’s what I’m here for. There are a few details to really understanding the importance of social media marketing, and where to start. Let’s dicuss, shall we?

Admit it, we’re all addicted to our cell phones. Our entire lives are jammed packed into apps, contacts, calendars and text messages. Mobile social media usage is dominating America, and probably most of the world. That is your answer to which platforms to focus on. The most popular social media platforms that are the most convenient to access on your cell phone are where your focus should be for your marketing your business.

As seen in the above diagram, the most popular and longest visited social media platform per day is indeed Facebook. The reason behind this is simple, there are more avenues available for discussions and reactions on Facebook, therefore users stay engaged longer. Facebook also has many ways to stay connected without being on their site or mobile app.  Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter are all very popular social media platforms, for different reasons. However, as you can tell, people stay engaged or logged onto these social media apps for less time. This information can help us understand which platforms we should use for which types of content.

As mentioned above, each and every social media platform has it’s own benefits. As we scroll through our newsfeed, we usually only stop to read or “react” to things that are interesting or informative, things that tug at our emotions, or sometimes just a post that we can really relate to.

There are three main reasons why businesses fail when attempting to market their services or products on social media platforms:

  1. They don’t invest enough time into posting and responding on each social media platform, on a regular basis.
  2. They don’t understand how to communicate with their target audience through intriguing captions and status updates.
  3. They don’t know where to begin to find new followers and fans…the real kind.

You want to post images, quotes, or even facts and statistics that may be relevant to your business. Always try to imagine what would catch your eye when scrolling through your newsfeed in the morning. Your ultimate aim should be shares of your content. The more people that share your posts, the more eyes you’ll have on your business name. Stealing images from google, or other Instagram pages is lazy. Don’t be lazy. You should ultimately be posting original content that is curated specifically for your business and brand. Creating a relationship with a professional Graphic Designer is ideal for collecting graphics, graphs, quotes, and product shots that are specific to your business, and won’t be seen on anyone else’s social media accounts. Luckily, I’m only an email away.

I would love to go over all of the effective ways to coordinate your social media posts and pages, but there so many options out there. One program/service that I happen to love for my social media coordination is Hootsuite. With Hootsuite, you are able to link all of your social media posts to your account. There’s even an app that you can download on your smart phone to post on the go. There are options to post right away, to all accounts, or you can schedule your posts to be published at a specific date and time. This honestly saves a lot of people the headache of logging into each individual social media account everyday to publish the same post…what a hassel that used to be!
